Ever noticed the business impact some people have when they walk into a room…or did you not notice them at all? What impact do you have? What impact would you like to have? Some of us spend a lot of time and money at networking events as part of what we think we ‘should’ do to generate opportunities for our business. Given that this investment can be significant over the years, how much time do you put into ensuring that you get the most out of your financial outlay? Try thinking about this the next time you get ready to go out to press the flesh… 1. What is your objective for the event? Do you want to collect many business cards to feed into your contact management system or do you want to connect meaningfully with three people? 2. How do you want people to remember you? When they look at your business card the next day what do you want them to think? Do you want them to remember how special and listened to you made them feel, that you had a really interesting service or that you are just another person they met at an event? Think about what your intention is for the event, really focus on it before you walk in and smile, be gracious and interested. This networking event is your sales front, so invest some time in preparing well for it. People will remember you when you have really made the effort to connect with them in a meaningful way. Stop the networking swivel…..you know, eyes darting around the room in case...
