I have had a lot of life experience – I guess that’s why I spend a lot of money looking 10 year younger at the hair salon every six weeks!
Over the years, I have learnt that even if things don’t turn out how you thought they would, that experience will not be wasted because there will be a learning in it for you.
It may be a shift in perspective, or you my have learnt a whole new set of skills that you will use, quite unexpectedly in years to come.
A few years ago, I was a Director in a Start Up Media company. We pitched TV programme concepts to TV stations and large brands for advertising and product placement.
Completely out of my comfort zone, I would go into brand owners and TV commissioning departments and pitch concepts and deals. I had never done this before but I did love it! Helping someone create a new product or service, and taking an idea form the ethereal to the tangible always floats my boat!
But for a range of reasons, the company failed. The global financial crisis hit, shrinking advertising budgets in a nano-second and the law was a little grey back then in product placement in TV.
Fast forward 6 years later and I find myself pitching a book idea to a publisher.
Did I use those skills I had learnt those years ago? Absolutely!
Did I learn from my previous mistake – you bet!
And was my latest pitch a success? Well, things are looking promising!
So wherever you are now, and if things aren’t turning out how you would like, remember that nothing in life is ever wasted. This experience you are going through right now will enable you in some future way you can’t even conceive of now.
Maybe this post resonates with something that has happened in your past, and you are finally bearing the fruits of that learning now. If so, I would love to know! Please share below….
