When you think of the year ahead – what emotion comes up for you?
Excitement, eager anticipation, dread, fear or even boredom?
How we think about our future will determine how it turns out. When we are expectant that great things will happen, typically they do. Unknowingly, we programme our brain to look for proof that what we expect happens. So, we have more positive outcomes.
What we think, we become
Likewise, if we wake at 2am and worry about the year ahead, how I will get new clients, manage my cash flow or cover the mortgage, then we hamper ourselves. Our brain becomes consumed with looking for problems to avoid instead of opportunities to exploit.
Start thinking about what you WANT instead of what you DON’T WANT.
When you know what you want, it is much easier to get into action and take the steps to go after what you want. The brain will more willingly move you towards something that you want as it know there will be a pay off!
If you do fret about the year ahead – STOP NOW!
Take 5 minutes and jot down all the things you want to happen in 2014.
Then the next time you wake at 2am, resist revisiting the well worn thoughts of worry. Instead replace them with the items on your new list! Imagine what it would be like to achieve them, and how that will feel.
When you shift your thinking, then you will be ready for 2014.
